SAFETY POLICY STATEMENT

The Appalachian & Ohio is committed to being one of the safest railroads in the country. To accomplish this task, we are empowering everyone with the right, the responsibility, the duty, and the resources to make safe decisions. Our ultimate goal is to prevent all personal injuries.

Safety rules and training courses cannot be written to cover everything railroaders do on the job. Therefore, we are empowered to make responsible decisions and take action necessary to prevent personal injuries.

Each individual must rely on good judgment, following the safest course available. We may have to contact a co-worker, supervisor or a manual for guidance. No action shall be taken until we are fully aware of the hazards involved and have a plan to avoid injury.

No job is so important, no service is so urgent, that we cannot take time to perform all work safely.

There are several programs now in place to keep safety foremost in the minds and actions of our employees. We emphasize the safety of each employee and anyone crossing over tracks or coming on our right-of-way, as well as the safe transportation of our customer’s goods.
